1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee owner one
The first owner reported a complaint to carcomplaints.com about his vehicle’s engine
“Just recently I backed my jeep out of my driveway and it stalls right in the middle of the road. Tried starting it but it just cranked. Put it into neutral and still would not start. After several minutes and in Park I cranked it over again and it fired up but real hesitant like. Finally it got up to the proper RPM. I headed down the road and was in the process of making a right hand turn when the jeep just abruptly died. The power steering, brakes, everything just shut down. I had a difficult time turning the vehicle, actually going all the way into the oncoming traffic but was able to get it back into my lane luckily avoiding an accident.
I have heard there are too many of these vehicles on the road and Chrysler is not doing anything about this. This is not the first time I have had these issues. I have changed everything from the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors, crankcase sensor, camshaft sensor, ignition coils, O2 sensors, TPS, IAC, fuel pump relay, everything at least once and some twice. Some said to not use aftermarket parts and use Mopar only. Done that and still the issue continues. Sometimes I can go for several months without a problem. Once I went nearly a year and a half before the problems came back. Its constant and its annoying. I'm afraid to let my family members or anyone else drive this vehicle. You never know when its going to happen. Gary from TX wrote in Sept of 2015 that a class action law suit should be filed and I agree. So count me in Gary. This Chrysler POS is a fair representation of what their engineers are designing and I for one will never recommend a Chrysler product to anyone ever again. Just NOT SAFE. This by the way is not multiple problems that I have listed. Its ONE problem that you have to spend multiple dollars on multiple parts just to get your vehicle going until it repeats the process again and again and again. Good luck with your fix.”

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee owner two
The second owners reported a complaint to Edmunds.com: “Run for you life! This is the worst SUV on the market! Problems from literaly day one. Black smoke poured out the back after owning for one day. Company would not diagnose correctly until warenty had expired! Thank you Chrysler! The brakes ate up our entire savings, the transmission was my right kidney, and not to mention the new engine we had to put in it. The front door does not lock, the windows leak, the hood does not stay up by its self. Please what ever you do DO NOT buy a 1999 Jeep! It is by far the worst decision my husband and I have ever made! We tell everyone we know how much we have “loved” our Jeep. If you own a Jeep you understand the nightmare.”
-
1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee owner three
The third owner reported a complaint to Edmunds.com “We owned a 1995 Grand Cherokee, V-8 for 3 or 4 years. Bought it used and drove it until it had 250,000 miles on it. It began stalling out under all conditions and NO ONE could find the answer. We then bought a 1999 Grand Cherokee with 110,000 miles, and it has been a piece of junk! Our friends have a 1999 Grand and our problems mirror each others, costing hundreds of dollars for each repair. To replace power window mechanism; $400+ each window. Tail light unit; $250+ each. Front drive shaft (new design for that year); $500+. We are done repairing! We want a different Jeep Grand, but to find the year with the least problems.”
