Towing, Roadside, and Junk Car Leads: A Buyer’s Guide

By Cash Cars Buyer, Inc. · Published

A towing or roadside lead is a customer inquiry, not a booked job. Evaluate a lead program by the services requested, the area you can cover, the delivery and billing rules, and the contribution from completed jobs after lead costs. Junk car leads require the same discipline, with vehicle purchase and collection costs included.

Match the inquiry to your operation

Towing leads

Towing leads connect a business with people seeking vehicle transport. When answering, establish the pickup and destination, vehicle type, whether it rolls, and access restrictions. Your equipment and dispatch availability determine which jobs you can safely accept. A light-duty operator and a heavy-duty provider should not treat every towing inquiry as interchangeable.

Roadside assistance leads

Roadside assistance leads may involve jump starts, flat tires, lockouts, or fuel delivery. Clarify the actual problem, location, vehicle details, and whether your team can provide that service. A request initially described as roadside help can require a tow after the situation is understood, so explain the options and price before dispatch.

Junk car buyer leads

Junk car leads are inquiries from people interested in selling a vehicle. A buyer needs the year, make, model, condition, title status, location, and access details to assess an offer. A seller’s asking price is not evidence that a purchase will be profitable. Include acquisition, pickup, handling, and other direct costs in your decision.

Understand delivery and billing before starting

Ask whether leads arrive as calls, forms, texts, or emails; who receives them; and what triggers a charge. Ask about repeat callers, missed calls, short conversations, geographic mismatches, and cancellation. “Pay per lead” does not mean “pay only when you close a job.”

Under the Cash Cars Buyer, Inc. Terms of Use, a call forwarded to your designated number or a transmitted electronic inquiry is billable. Repeat callers, missed calls, and out-of-area inquiries remain billable. Pricing is agreed separately in writing, billing is daily for delivered leads, and cancellation requires at least 24 hours’ notice by text to the number in the terms. Read the complete terms, including the no-refund policy, before purchasing.

Measure cost per completed job

Start with total lead spend divided by completed jobs attributable to those leads. Then compare that cost with what a typical completed job contributes after its direct operating costs. Revenue alone can make an unprofitable program look attractive.

Illustrative calculation

100 leads at $16 each cost $1,600. If 40 become completed jobs, lead cost per completed job is $40. If each job contributes $70 after direct operating costs but before lead costs and fixed overhead, those jobs contribute $2,800. Subtracting $1,600 leaves $1,200 before fixed overhead and taxes.

At only 20 completed jobs, the same lead spend costs $80 per completed job and exceeds that $70 contribution. These are hypothetical inputs, not results or earnings promises.

For a junk car buyer, apply the same logic to completed purchases. Account for the price paid for each vehicle and the actual collection and processing costs before treating resale proceeds as margin.

Track the steps you can improve

Review a consistent period and keep the same definitions when comparing sources. A missed call, a declined quote, and a canceled job are different problems. Recording the reason for each outcome helps you decide whether to improve call handling, change your service area, or adjust capacity.

Start with coverage you can actually service

Choose an area based on response time and operating costs, not just the largest possible radius. Match your requested volume to staffed hours and available vehicles. Confirm current market availability and pricing with our team, and make sure everyone answering calls knows the services and rates you can offer.
